Hi CJ, thanks for being the artist on #DiscoveryFridays this week, so can I start by asking you -what’s you background in music?
When I was a kid there was always music in the house, so between my parents I was exposed to classic rock, 60s standards and 70s disco. Guitar was the first instrument I picked up and later some years later I got into synthesizers.
What drew you over to retro/synthwave sounds?
I discovered synthwave back in 2013 after watching a horror movie called “ABC’s Of Death”. There was a segment that featured and 80s style synth instrumental track. I enjoyed it so much that I had to look up who performed it. I found out it was by a duo named Power Glove. From there I found out about the New Retro Wave youtube channel and discovered other artists in the genre. Before that I was always into the 80s era of music so after discovering synthwave, I immediately fell in love with the genre.
What do you have going on that is out or coming up?
I just released my debut full length album entitled “Moonlit City” on December 29 2017. I am currently working on a follow EP as well as a couple of collaborations and remixes.
Is there any particular equipment you use, or method of production you’d like to share for the producers out there?
I use a combination of software and hardware synths. When it comes to plugins I really like the Arturia collection as well as the Korg Legacy. My hardware synths include a Yamaha DX7, Roland D50, Roland JX-8P, Roland Juno 60, and Roland Juno 106. Depending on what I am recording I either program/sequence them or a play it live.
