Sometimes your music can be more metal than synth- Favorite metal bands?
Haha yeah I love me some metal from time to time, used to play in a couple of hardcore and metal bands in the past. My favs include extreme stuff like Meshuggah & The Dillinger Escape Plan but also Deftones can float my boat. Been grabbing back to some old Death records too lately.
Your live performances are very active! What word of wisdom can you give to the budding live performer?
Just be yourself! I can’t stand still while performing, but that’s just me. When I see someone perform I like to feel something. That doesn’t mean you have to go crazy, but try to create a certain atmosphere that sucks the audience in. I’ll get sweat on my gear and accidentally hit buttons or keys when going wild so it’s not recommended.
What is your DAW and VST of choice?
I use Reaper, and yes I paid for it … after 5 years haha. To me it works very logical and does almost everything I need it to do. Still learning though. The only VSTs I use are free ones. I can always get what I want by sound processing and eq-ing. As they say, it’s all in the ear, not in the gear. For leads and pads I mostly don’t use VSTs but the synths I have lying around.
What made you get into creating `wave music?
Playing too much Miami Hotline really got it started for me. But before that I used to have some Jean Michel Jarre cassettes as a kid and listened to Vangelis’ original Blade Runner score a lot too. Always have been a b-movie, horror and sic fi lover and started playing around with electronic beats and sounds when I was 16, but only released my first synthwave EP in 2013. Not going to tell you under what alias that was though haha.
